Blue Mars runs on Windows-based machines (XP, Vista, Windows7.) We recommend a dual core machine with a DirectX9 compatible video card with 512mb of dedicated video memory, 2GB of system ram, and 10GB of free hard drive space. Most mainstream video cards on the market today run Blue Mars well and the latest version of Intel’s integrated video processors can run Blue Mars on basic settings. You can find our official recommended hardware specifications here. You will find a list of video cards that are compatible with Blue Mars here.
Blue Mars uses the Cryengine graphics engine from Crytek to render the environments in the world. At this time, Crytek only distributes a Windows version of the engine. If Crytek ever ports the engine to the Mac, we can evaluate creating an OSX version of Blue Mars. Although it’s not officially supported, many of our users (including our CEO) are running Blue Mars through Boot Camp or an emulator like Wine or Parallels. We are also testing a cloud rendering solution that would open Blue Mars to all platforms.
